Le terme « lock » provient de l'anglais et signifie « verrouillage ». Il peut désigner deux faits différents.

Le lock d'un topic[modifier | modifier le wikicode]

Le lock est la fonction de la modération pour fermer un topic jugé inapproprié, hors-règles, ou dépassé. Un topic locké a pour icône un cadenas. Il est impossible de poster sur un topic locké, excepté un modérateur.

A noter qu'un lock se produit également lors du split d'un topic, sans intervention de modérateur.

Le lock est aussi utilisé par des forumeurs au sujet de leurs pseudos. On dit d'un pseudo qu'il est locké lorsque son nombre de messages atteint une certaine valeur "pile", et que son possesseur décide de ne plus poster avec. Ce nombre est donc figé dans la CDV dudit pseudo, nombre prenant alors une valeur bien plus esthétique voire symbolique. Le propriétaire du pseudo peut décider de locker son pseudo indéfiniment ou pour une durée plus ou moins longue, son action résulte avant tout de sa propre volonté et généralement, de son envie de changer de pseudonyme.

Les locks de pseudos s'effectuent généralement après être parvenu à un multiple de 1000, ou lorsque tous les chiffres du nombre de messages postés ont identiques. Un lock peut par exemple s'effectuer après 5 000, 12 000 ou 20 000 messages, mais aussi après 3 333, 7 777 ou 11 111 messages.
